What is a Call CAPTCHA?
A Call CAPTCHA is a voice security feature that helps protect your phone system from spam and robocalls. Similar to the CAPTCHAs you encounter on websites (e.g., "I'm not a robot" checkboxes), Call CAPTCHA challenges the caller with a simple test—like pressing a specific key—to confirm that the caller is human before allowing the call to continue.
Example: A business sets up a Call CAPTCHA on its main support line. When someone calls in, they hear a message like: “Please press 7 to continue.”
If the caller presses the correct key, the call is routed to the support team. If they fail or do not respond, the call is disconnected or routed to a voicemail or holding queue.
This helps prevent robocalls from clogging up the system and ensures that only legitimate callers get through.
Creating a Call CAPTCHA
1. From the main menu on the left, navigate to: "UC Admin" → "Settings & Security" → "CAPTCHA"
2. Select “+ Add CAPTCHA” in the upper-right corner.
3. Complete the form with the following required information:
Assigned Account: Select the account this CAPTCHA belongs to. This field only appears if you have not already selected an account from the main dropdown at the top right of the page.
Label: Enter a name used for internal identification.
Extension Number: Assign a 3-7 digit extension number that the system will use to identify this CAPTCHA for call routing purposes.
4. Select “Add” in the lower-right to create the CAPTCHA.
5. Once the CAPTCHA is created, you’ll be redirected to a page where you can further customize it (see Step 3 under "Managing an Existing CAPTCHA" below for more on available settings).
Note: While an extension number isn’t required to create the CAPTCHA, it must be assigned later for the CAPTCHA to be usable in a call flow.
