Extension Numbering Guidelines

 

Keeping your extension numbers organized is the key to scalability. Extension numbers can be between 3 and 5 numbers. Here are some numbering guidelines to follow when building a new phone system.

Extensions (Users)

Pattern: 1 series

Example: 101

IVR Menus (Virtual Receptionists)

Pattern: 1 series

Example: 1001

Directories

Pattern: 2 series

Example: 2001

Conference Bridges

Pattern: 3 series

Example: 3001

Queues

Pattern: 4 series

Example: 4001

Toggle-Based Routes

Pattern: 5 series

Example: 5001

Ring Groups

Pattern: 6 series

Example: 6001

Call Parking

Pattern: 7 series

Example: 700

Paging/Intercom Groups

Pattern: 8 series

Example: 8001

Announcements

Pattern: 9 series
