Purchasing and Managing Phone Numbers
Introduction
Higher-level users have the ability to purchase phone numbers directly from the platform. Purchasing phone numbers allows you to assign local, toll-free, or international numbers to your account(s) for use with extensions, call flows, or other communication features.
Purchasing Phone Numbers
1. From the main menu on the left, navigate to “Phone Numbers” → “Purchase”
2. Begin your search by entering a valid Area Code to view available numbers in that region.
3. Optional filters include:
- City and State – Narrow results by geographic location.
- Vanity – Search for numbers with custom or memorable patterns (e.g., 1-800-FLOWERS). Ideal for branding and marketing purposes.
- Rate Center – Select a specific geographic zone within an area code to match local dialing presence or ensure number portability. (Similar to narrowing down by city, but generally encompasses a slightly broader region.)
4. Select the yellow “Search Available Numbers” button to display matching results.
5. On the results page, a list of available phone numbers will be displayed (see above).
- If desired, use the filters in the lower-left corner to further narrow the list by City, State, Vanity, or Rate Center.
6. Select the desired phone number(s) by checking the box next to each one. Selected numbers will appear in the “Selected Numbers” panel in the upper-left corner of the screen.
7. Once you've made your selection, use the dropdown menus to assign the phone number directly to an account, or to a "pool" for later use.
8. Click the “Purchase Numbers” button to finalize the purchase. Once finalized, a popup will appear, confirming your purchase(s).
Importing and Adding Internal Numbers
1. From the main menu on the left, navigate to “Phone Numbers” → “Manage”
2. Use the purple buttons in the top-right corner to add to your number inventory:
Import Phone Number(s):
You can bulk import existing numbers into your inventory.
Country code is required (e.g., +1 for US/Canada).
Separate phone numbers using commas or new lines.
If applicable, toggle to mark numbers as "routable" which allows the number to receive incoming calls.
Add Internal Number(s):
Specify the Assigned Account.
Choose the quantity of internal (non-routable) numbers to be added.
Note: Internal numbers are considered non-routable because they are only designed to work within your phone system—they’re not reachable from the outside world (like the public telephone network).
Managing Existing Phone Numbers
1. Select any phone number in the list to open its configuration panel.
2. Depending on your access level, available actions may include:
- Manage Tab
- Toggle Routable status for inbound call delivery.
- Change the associated Customer Account.
- Manage Spoofing permissions.
- Configure additional Call Routing settings by clicking the purple "Manage Call Routing" button under UC Admins. Note this will take you to another page with the following tabs:
- General
- edit the label, description, notes, emergency notification emails
- Call Flow
- phone number usage (voice only, fax only, or both)
- voice destination
- faxing type (analog, digital, or hybrid)
- enable/disable anonymize callerID
- add callerID prefix
- select Music on Hold album
- Advanced
- record inbound/outbound calls
- webhooks
- fetch callerID
- Be sure to click “Update” at the bottom of the screen to save your changes before navigating away.
Caller ID Tab
Update the Caller ID (CNAM) display name.
Note: Changes submitted to the national CNAM database can take up to 10 days to propagate. During this period, the displayed name may still reflect the previous value. Avoid frequent updates, as repeated submissions can negatively impact your number's spam reputation.
