Setting up eFax / SMS for a User (The UCP)

Setting up eFax / SMS for a User (The UCP)

What is the UCP (User Control Panel)?

The UCP is a "basic version" of the phone system admin portal that lets individual users/employees get very basic access to their OWN extensions, call history, call recordings, and voicemail. Additionally, the UCP is where users can send/receive digital faxes (eFax) and text messages (SMS).

Creating a UCP User Account

  1. Go to UCP Users > Manage
  2. Click "Add User"
  3. The user account requires an Email Address and Password. Name, Extensions, and eFax/SMS are optional.
  4. Important Notice: If the Email Address you use for this user is already in use by an Admin account, it will not work. You will just need to make up an email address for this user.

Enabling SMS (Text Messages) for a UCP Account:

  1. Go to UCP Users, and Edit (or create) a user account.
  2. Make sure to set the SMS number in the "EFAX / SMS" tab.
  3. Submit

Note: Only 1 SMS number per UCP account.

Note: Picture texting is not supported yet.

Note: Group texting is not supported yet.

Enabling eFax (Electronic Fax) for a UCP Account:

  1. Make sure to create a UCP Account first.
  2. Go to Call Routing > Inbound to view a list of your phone numbers.
  3. Find a number you want to enable for eFax.
  4. Click Edit to edit the number.
  5. Go to "Call Flow" tab
    1. If this number is ONLY used for faxing, set the "Voice Destination" to eFax User > Your UCP user account.
    2. If this number is used for BOTH voice and faxing, set the "Fax Detection" destination to eFax User > Your UCP user account.
  6. Submit
  7. Go to UCP Users > Manage > Edit the UCP User account.
  8. Go to the "EFAX / SMS" tab, and make sure the correct phone number is being used for eFax.

Note: You can route a phone number/fax number to 1 destination at a time. However, you can have multiple UCP accounts use the same number for outbound faxing.

Enabling Call History and Voicemail for a UCP Account:

  1. Go to UCP Users > Manage > Edit the UCP User account.
  2. Go to the "EXTENSIONS" tab
  3. Using the dropdowns, assign all the extensions this user should have access to.
  4. Click Submit
