When to Reboot vs Factory Reset a Phone

When to Reboot vs Factory Reset a Phone

In most cases, turning a phone off and back on again (Rebooting) is all it takes to fix common issues. However, there are occasional instances where a factory reset is required instead.

You can Reboot a phone by unplugging the Power Cord from the back of the device (black and round) and plugging it back in 10 seconds later. If the phone is PoE, meaning being powered by the Ethernet cable rather than a plug, you will need to unplug the Ethernet cable instead.

Cases when a phone reboot a phone might be required:
• Network Changes
• After a power outage, once the power and internet has been restored
• The phone is acting out of the ordinary
• The configuration is not updating

If a reboot still doesn’t resolve the problem, a Factory Reset may be the next step. PrimeVOX supported phones automatically re-provision following a factory reset, provided they have access to the Internet. However, we recommend that you reach out to PrimeVOX Support at support@primevox.net before factory resetting a device to confirm that your phone is set up to automatically re-provision following the factory reset.
