Extension Settings

Introduction

What is an Extension?
An extension is a unique number assigned to a user, phone, or device within your organization’s phone system. It serves as a direct internal line, allowing colleagues to reach each other quickly without dialing full phone numbers.

Extensions are essential building blocks of a unified communications environment and are typically linked to a user’s physical phone, softphone app, or virtual line.

What Are Extension Settings?
Extension Settings allow users to personalize how their extension behaves. This includes features like:
  1. Call Forwarding to redirect incoming calls to another number or device.
  2. Dynamic Caller ID selection to choose which outbound number to display.
  3. Additional options may include voicemail behavior, speed dials, or device preferences—depending on your account’s permissions.
Whether you’re stepping away from your desk, working remotely, or managing how calls appear to others, Extension Settings give you the control to stay reachable and professional.

Managing Extension Settings

To view or modify your extension’s behavior:

1. From the left pop-out menu, go to: "UC User" "Extension Settings"

2. You'll see a list of available extensions under your account. Click on the extension number you want to manage.

3. Available Tabs & Settings:
  1. Call Forwarding
    1. Enable/Disable Forwarding: Use the toggle to turn call forwarding on or off.
    2. Forwarding Destination: Specify the number where you want incoming calls to be redirected. This can be a mobile number, another extension, or an external line.
    3. Make sure to click "Update" at the bottom before navigating to a new tab.
    4. Useful when you're out of office or want to forward calls to a colleague.
  2. Dynamic Caller ID
    1. Choose from a list of predefined Caller ID numbers that you’re allowed to display when placing outbound calls.
    2. The available numbers are determined by your system administrator or service provider.
    3. For example, you may switch your outbound Caller ID from your personal line to a general company number for branding or privacy.
